GCBA Closes Out the Year With the Annual Holiday Mixer

GCBA Closes Out the Year With the Annual Holiday Mixer

Friday evening the GCBA closed out a successful 2015 with its final event of the year, we had our 2nd Annual Holiday Party, hosted by Gordon Chevrolet. Members invited Garden City business owners, potential members & supporters to the party. There was plenty of food and drink, and entertainment was provided by Kelly Walker Miller. Everyone even had a chance to get behind the microphone and sing a little karaoke. I was amazed at all the talent we have right here in Garden City!

I want to thank Gordon Chevrolet for opening up their showroom for us, and the donation of food and items to raffle off. A special thanks to Sheri Barber and her husband Bill for all your hard work in making this party such a huge success. It was amazing!

Thanks to Judy and the staff from The Golden Feather Restaurant for bringing your broasted chicken and all the extras. It was delicious!

And a huge thanks to all of the party goers for their generous donations of food for the Garden City Home Food Pantry, and toys for the Toys for Tots campaign. The collection boxes were over flowing!

In closing, we were happy to welcome some new members to the GCBA, including Garden City Hospital, Red Wing Shoes and You’ve Got Maids just to name a few. Thank you.

If you are a small business, large business, home based business, organization or someone who would like to just be an advocate for our business community, than please consider joining the GCBA. Become involved in some great events and help promote our business community. We are “business owners committed to working together.”

Join us at our next GCBA meeting, January 8th, 9am at the Straight Farmhouse Museum in the Grand Parlor. 6221 Merriman Rd. We look forward to seeing you!

Several Garden City businesses took the opportunity to introduce themselves and their business to the shoppers. See all of the photos.

First Ever Trunk or Treat a Success

First Ever Trunk or Treat a Success

Garden City’s first-ever Trunk or Treat was a roaring success as an estimated 2,000 trick or treaters and their parents thronged to the Towne Center parking lot on Thursday, October 29.

Despite the cold weather and a line that stretched at times to Middlebelt Road, the enthusiastic participants visited every one of the “trunks” and collected their treats.

The event was co-hosted by the Garden City Downtown Development Authority and the Garden City Business Alliance.

“What a night it was,” said GCBA President Kerry Partin. “I think the kids and their parents and the people passing out candy from their trunks, all had fun.”

Garden City Business Alliance Celebrates its First Birthday

Garden City Business Alliance Celebrates its First Birthday

It was just one year ago that Kelly Perkins and Kerry Partin got together to organize the first meeting of the Garden City Business Alliance. More than two dozen business owners showed up for the initial meeting. The rational for many of the participants was to find a replacement for the Chamber of Commerce which had left Garden City several years earlier.

The first meeting was devoted to planning the structure of the group that was to become the GCBA, and to network with other business owners and to swap business cards.

The group agreed to meet monthly at different venues in the city. Since that first meeting the GCBA has elected a set of officers with founders Partin and Perkins as president and vice president respectively, put in place a website, and served as one of the cohosts of the Garden City Taste Fest.

The Garden City Taste Fest Has Sold Out. No More Registrations Accepted

The first-ever Garden City Taste Fest that will take place on May 19, 2015, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm has been sold out. No more registrations are being accepted. Hosted by the Garden City DDA and the Garden City Business Alliance, the event will provide an opportunity to sample the food at some of the best places to eat in our community.

Guests will meet at Merriman Road Baptist Church where they will be given their t-shirts, starting restaurant, and itinerary. The shirts act as the “ticket” for the event.

Buses transport guests to the participating restaurants and drop off/pick up guests throughout the evening. Guests can drive separately, if preferred.

At each restaurant, guests will sample food, enjoy entertainment (if available), and purchase drinks if they wish. The bus will be waiting to transport them to the next restaurant on the itinerary, and will drive them back to the church to retrieve their vehicles.

Tickets to the Taste Fest are $20 per person.

We hope to make this an annual event and to grow it larger each year.

The Garden City Business Alliance held its first holiday mixer at the Straight Farmhouse on Friday, December 12. The purpose of the event was to celebrate the holiday season and to meet local business owners in an informal setting. Many showed up for the mixer and became members of the GCBA.

Tony Grabanica, owner of the Garden City Cafe, supplied the food to an appreciative crowd.
